Frequently Asked Questions
Are students guaranteed to get into the college of their choice?
College admissions decisions are subjective and extremely competitive. I will provide my best professional advice, informed by more than 20 years’ experience working to help students achieve college access and success. I do not guarantee admissions, and suggest that you question anyone who does. I also strongly believe that there is no “best college”— only the best college for each individual student.
I’ve heard that some college counselors will write essays for students. Will you do that?
Absolutely not. I have worked with hundreds of applicants to craft college admissions and scholarship essays. My essay advice includes topic development, voice discovery, structure and organization coaching, and grammar/ spelling checks. I’ve has been known to encourage students to revert to an earlier draft of an essay after it has been edited by an overeager parent or English teacher. It’s in the applicant’s— and the college’s—best interest for application materials to reflect a student’s best work (with a little advice) but not the work of a professional.
Will my child work with you? Or will you meet with my child to come up with a plan and then hand it off to someone with less experience?
CMS Coaching is a one-woman shop! Each student and their family will work with me from start to finish.
My family lives in Philadelphia and my child works better in person. Can you meet face-to-face?
I have found that Zoom works great for most things but let’s talk about it. Use my contact form to get in touch.
How do I know you’re the right coach for my child?
Let’s set up a get-to-know-you call! The initial conversation is free. Contact me using the form below and we will set up a time to chat.
