Coaching for success, even in a pandemic

Being a parent is challenging enough. It’s not realistic to expect you to also be a teacher too!

Christina M. Santos Coaching provides resources and support to families with middle-school and high-school students, including students who are learning in a full-time virtual or hybrid environment. Even students who only learn online occasionally could use some support. Forget the care free snow days of the past! Since schools when virtual in 2020, more schools than ever before are delivering content through flexible learnings days.

Whether you’ve made the decision or the administrators did, virtual learning requires more from parents.  You want your student to succeed, regardless of how the curriculum is delivered. But you’re being pulled in so many different directions and your hands are full!

Concerned about your child’s ability to meet deadlines, complete assignments and manage their time? At your wits end about how to make sure all of the work is done?

That's where I come in!

With more than 20 years’ experience working with high school and college-age students, I have the expertise (and the patience) to support your student’s learning.

Coaching includes...

GOAL SETTING & PLANNING:

It takes more than just academic skills to succeed in an online or hybrid learning environment.

CMS Coaching will get to know your child and your family (all virtually!), tailoring a program that will support your student’s learning style to help them identify and meet their goals.

All academic coaching services begin with the Strong Start Consultation. This comprehensive process allows both students and parents to reflect on where they are and what they want to achieve. After independent reflection and a group discussion, Christina recommends a plan for success and provides skill-building resources. Families can then proceed on their own, or sign up for additional support to move towards success.

SKILL BUILDING:

Time management, goal setting, assignment completion: these are just a few of the skills necessary for students to succeed in an online or hybrid learning environment-- and in life!

CMS Coaching will identify areas of strength and struggle so that, in addition to academic subject mastery, your student is building critical life skills, even in this difficult time.

In the Academic Success Plan, through a combination of video calls, resource sharing, and mutual documents using Google Drive, Christina will work with your student as frequently as is specified in the plan. Custom packages are also available.

MONITORING AND ACCOUNTABILITY:

Tracking your student’s assignment completion can feel like a full time job. And receiving those unexpected emails from teachers about missed deadlines is not fun!

CMS Coaching will monitor your student’s assignments, track deadlines, and keep you, as a parent, up to date on progress and problem areas!

By working with your student weekly (or more frequently!) via video call and shared documents using Google Drive, Christina will track deadlines and assignments. Students will be asked to share their screen via Zoom so Christina can view any online platforms being used for virtual/ hybrid schooling.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the age of students you coach?

I work with students from middle school through college. While my coaching is informed by working with the family, most of my work is with the student. Students must be at least 13 years of age, have access to a reliable device and internet connection, and be able to work (relatively) independently.

What subjects do you tutor?

Common misconception— I’m an academic coach, not a tutor. I work with students to help develop skills that make them effective learners— including time management, study skills, attention to detail, accountability, how to communicate with adults, and more. Using the skills I teach, students become more responsible for their academic work and learn how to use resources to support their own success.

The current services aren’t right for my child. Can you meet my needs?

Let’s talk about it! The benefit of working with a personal coach is that services can be tailored to each individual. If your child’s needs differ from what is offered, we can figure it out together.

My family lives in Philadelphia and my child works better in person. Can you meet face-to-face?

I find that Zoom is a great medium and cuts out travel time for everyone involved but I’m open to discussing the options. Let’s talk about it.

How do I know you’re the right coach for my child?

Let’s set up a get-to-know-you call! The initial conversation is free. Contact me using the form below and we will set up a time to chat.
